Epic Programme and Unbelievable Guests Expected at Comic Con Cape Town.
Comic Con Cape Town announced at the media briefing for the event, the incredible line-up that Capetonians can look forward to as well as another incredible international film and series celebrity joining the ranks for the star-studded line-up for the show, which takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC2) from the 27th to the 30th of April 2023. Powered by Toyota, hosted by The City of Cape Town, with connectivity partner Telkom, Cape Town’s first full Comic Con experience is going to be a weekend like no other.
In collaboration with FanCon and the Cape Town International Animation Festival, Africa’s largest pop culture and gaming festival is set to hit the shores of the Mother City, hosting over 200 exhibitors, and will be able to accommodate 20 000 + visitors across the four days. With 2 halls, large activity zones, and an immersive experience for all, the show will be like nothing Capetonians have ever seen.
With 4 stages and content zones, dozens of speakers on the programme that includes over 250 hours of content, fans will have an endless number of options to choose from. The star-studded line-up of 4 international film and series stars include Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Kat Graham (Vampire Diaries), Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead), and the newly revealed, in an exclusive announcement, David Oakes, who is best known for his roles in the series Vikings: Valhalla and Victoria.
All visitors are encouraged to embrace being themselves, regardless of their cultural background, physical ability or personal identity as they explore the 2 floors of the CTICC, taking in everything that Comic Con Cape Town has on offer.
Hosting one of the largest Artist Alleys in the Southern Hemisphere, with dozens of exhibiting comic artists and creatives, the backbone of Comic Con Cape Town is stronger than ever. With over 95 local artists, several international artists from across the globe including the USA, UK and Zimbabwe, comic artists, illustrators and animators will engage with fans all weekend long. On the Artist Alley stage, fans can look forward to live draw sessions as well as interviews with international and local comic book artists.
Cosplay Central – brought to you by Brother South Africa – brings out the creative, fun, and imaginative fans who will come adorned in their costumes, some taking part in the Cosplay Master’s Competition for the chance to be crowned the Regional Champion. Cosplay fans can look forward to meeting international cosplay superstars including the incredible Elizabeth Range, and the legendary Leon Chiro.
Gaming fans can gear up as Comic Con Cape Town will feature a next-level gaming experiences, with free-to-play tournaments and zones, as well as gaming deals. Telkom VS Gaming will bring gaming to life with an unforgettable gaming experience. The Doritos Crunch Cup will have R10 000.00 up for grabs each day. With four free-to-play tournaments, different titles available daily, pro showdowns, and the Red Bull Hattrick, which presents a unique 3-on-3 team format, which will see regional university teams qualify for the National Final at Comic Con Cape Town.
At the media launch, Toyota was also announced as an official partner – bringing The Toyota Gaming Engine which continues its mission of providing an inclusive and immersive gaming experience for all South African gamers, offering exciting free-to-play tournaments for all visitors with awesome prizes, as well as not-to-bemissed championships.
StreetCon, in partnership with Palladium, is an area on the show floor that highlights the perfect mash up between urban culture and pop culture, will feature the latest in popular streetwear, music and street art.
This is the perfect mashup between urban culture and pop culture. Featuring emerging and new gear, talent and creators, this space will be alive with urban culture for all. As well as the exciting new addition of The Custom Wars where top artist will be challenged to customise a pair of Palladium boots with a pop culture Theme, this new addition is proudly brought to you by Palladium.
StreamerCon will be the place to experience all the magic of online, in real life. Bringing together everything that makes watching, promoting, and creating the future of online video content to life, StreamerCon will offer digital creators, platform innovators, and their fans a place to meet, mingle, make new friends, and expand their reach through ground-breaking industry exchanges with over 30 speakers and content creators. On an international front, Scottish streamer Marley13 joins the roster – best know for this series relaying “things that Scottish COD players say”.
For those looking to indulge in the exclusive offering available at the show, they can get their hands on exclusive Funko Pops, the best collectables, and comics.
Tabletop gamers can expect to immerse themselves in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, as well as taking part in open play sessions all while seeing a broad range of tabletop game demos.
The Programme on the Mainstage will have fans in awe for hours on end. With international guest Q&As, panel discussions, casual cosplay competitions, daily quizzes, various announcements taking place, and more – fans will never experience a dull moment.
Collocated with Comic Con Cape Town will be the Cape Town International Animation Festival, where visitors will have access to workshops, panel discussions, screenings and so much more, with the same ticket. As a family friendly show, Comic Con Cape Town encourages you to geek out at this year’s festival and make memories at Cape Town’s first and premier pop culture and gaming festival.
