Stellenbosch Art Mile

Stretching from the pedestrian bridge in Krige Street at Markotter up to the Coetzenburg bridge along the Eerste River, Stellenbosch, South Africa

02 October 2024

Participating Artists Include: Jean Brundrit, Nina Kruger, Rose Kirumira, Ledelle Moe, Vulindlela Nyoni, Strijdom van der Merwe, Gina van der Ploeg, Edoardo Villa & Sivan Zeffertt.

The theme for the inaugural year,  which starts in October 2024, is Tapestry of Time curated by Clara Babette of Oude Leeskamer Gallery. It explores the deep geological eras that have shaped the river landscape and the town of Stellenbosch.

It will reflect on the progression of events along the river - from the past into the future - emphasising the unidirectional flow of time and the importance of memory in human perception.

About Stellenbosch Art Mile

Community-Driven Creativity

More than just a park, the Stellenbosch Art Mile will be a vibrant community-driven area where creativity thrives. It will be a place where diverse voices and artistic expressions come together, creating an inclusive and dynamic environment.

An Immersive Experience

  • Gather: A place to meet, connect, learn, and express.
  • Admire: A setting to appreciate nature, art, creativity, and beauty.
  • Reflect: An environment to relax, imagine, and meditate.
  • Immerse: An area to engage your senses - listen, touch, smell, and observe.
  • Move: A space to be active - hike, bike, skate, and play.

The Art Mile Team

The development of this ongoing project is overseen by a dedicated Steering Committee.

This committee includes Charité Mouton, Ben-Carl Havemann from Visit Stellenbosch and Stellenbosch Publicity & Marketing, Andi Norton and Hanlé Hill from the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust, Francé Beyers from the Stellenbosch Triennale, and Clara Babette from Oude Leeskamer who is also the curator of the 2024/2025 Exhibition
