University of Pretoria Masters Exhibition - Octavia Roodt
This exhibition features artworks produced by second year Master of Fine Arts students from the Visual Arts Department at the University of Pretoria. The artworks are created in a diverse variety of mediums such as oil painting and video art and explore a broad range of topics spanning from "humanity's embroiled relationship with nature" to "the phenomenon of author-artists creating autobiographical narratives in comics." The artworks were produced by the artists for the practical component of their MFA studies and showcase the quality and standard not only expected of but ultimately achieved by those who pursue their Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Pretoria. Octavia Roodt, Danielle Oosthuizen and Dylan Graham are the participating artists in this exhibition.
The collection of artworks chosen and showcased in the "University of Pretoria Masters Exhibition" serves as an example of the different artistic outputs generated by artists, in various fields and stages of their careers. Although this inevitably brings together works of different views grappling with disparate ideas they are unified by the same goal of developing and nurturing their artistic voice and practices within the same institution, an institution that occupies a prominent space in the South African academic landscape. The "Conversations" section serves as a platform that gives viewers but a glimpse into the different practices that have been matured and expanded upon within this very institution of higher learning and allows viewers to see how these artists view their own particular voices.
