Dr Annemi Conradie-Chetty is an artist, curator and lecturer in History of Art and director of the research niche, Visual Narratives and Creative Outputs (ViNCO) at the North-West University. Conradie-Chetty’s research focuses on (re-)appropriations of cultural heritage and archival material in contemporary South African art and design. Her artistic practice includes performance, installation, and mixed media works. The latter are made from discarded textiles, packaging and old prints that are cut, folded, sewn and embroidered. Through these works and practices of making, she investigates themes such as consumerism and environmental degradation, the afterlives of historical images and beliefs, and the memorialising of the everyday.
